Job Title: Accountant
Reports to: Executive Director

BASIC FUNCTION
The basic function of this position is to handle all financial transactions for Riverton Community Housing (RCH), including six separate student cooperative housing locations. This includes handling all rents coming in, crediting proper accounts, handling all disbursements including payroll, withholding taxes, and other government required transactions. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining the accounting system, including general ledger and balance sheet.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Duties
- Responsible for the maintenance and preparation of all banking, bookkeeping, and accounting related records.
- Balance accounts, journalize and post transactions, establish trial balances, compile financial statements, and generate or review computer reports at regular intervals.
- Prepare monthly operating statements and balance sheets, including enter general journal adjustments as necessary.
- Provide assistance to the auditors for the year-end process.
- Process expenditures and invoices, ensuring prompt payment to all accounts payable.
- Ensure timely and effective collection of all accounts receivable.
- Maintain accurate apartment and account records to include reconciliation and posting.
- Maintain bank accounts, including deposits, withdrawals, and reconciliation.
- Prepare payroll for all Riverton employees, including making timely payments, deposits on accounts for federal government, state government and employee insurance withholding.
- Take on additional administrative tasks as required.
RELATIONSHIPS
Within RCH: Interface with the Property Managers/Office Coordinators with regard to rent paid, billing questions and status of accounts, and with various boards and committees from the different housing coops. Occasional evening meetings will be necessary.
Outside RCH: Interface with vendors, financial institutions, and governmental offices with regard to payments and necessary reports, outside accounting staff with regard to preparation for the year-end audits.
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills: Should have a thorough understanding of Quickbooks and various other computer programs, including spreadsheets, word processing, data base software applications, and accounting systems. A familiarity with Management Plus and/or CAMS property management software is desirable. Also requires good written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organization and time management skills.
Education: Requires a two year certificate in accounting or bookkeeping or equivalent experience.
Experience: Requires a minimum of four years experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
Additional Requirements: Prior to employment, a background investigation and drug test will be conducted. Also all applicants will need to provide a current credit report and a list of at least three references prior to interviewing.
