Mary Novak, new Executive Director of Riverton, will start February, 2020.

After an extensive search for a new Executive Director, Ms. Mary Novak, has been selected as the next leader of Riverton. Current Executive Director of Riverton Community Housing Gary Ellis will retire from his position effective February 1, 2020.  During the selection process,she exhibited a well-grounded and substantial passion for Riverton Community Housing’s mission and organization. She will be a strong advocate for the cooperative model of student housing and expand opportunities for residents to learn and grow in their cooperative leadership skills.

Mary is an impressive community leader with many years of experience in bringing organizational mission to reality. She is well-situated to continue to expand the mission of Riverton: To develop and maintain quality student-oriented housing communities operating on a nonprofit, democratic basis.

Mary has extensive experience and interest in creating fruitful connections in the Twin Cities community and beyond. She plans to further develop meaningful opportunities that strengthen ties with Riverton’s valued and diverse stakeholders.

She has a clear vision for productively guiding the Riverton Community Housing Strategic Plan adopted by the Board of Directors in 2018. Ms. Novak is a proven team leader with a significant array of coaching skills. Professional colleagues have observed that she has a good balance of: technical expertise; communication skills; relationship building; and leadership presence.

Mary has a Master of Arts degree in Urban Planning from the University of California – Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from the College of St. Benedict. She holds a Real Estate License in the State of Minnesota and is a Certified Housing Development and Home Ownership Finance Professional. Her recent professional experience includes Housing Development Specialist and Partner at Landon Group, LLC, Senior Project Manager at Project for Pride in Living, and Project Manager at Shaw-Lundquist Associates, Inc. Her community service include roles with: Women in Real Estate and Urban Planning; Minnesota Consortiumof Community Developers, Civics Incorporated, Riverton Community Housing, and numerous mentoring and volunteering contributions within her community.
